Mats Hummels nearing automatic contract renewal with Roma

German defender Mats Hummels is reportedly close to extending his stay in the Italian capital.

After not being given a chance to impress the fans under Ivan Juric, Hummels quickly became a staple in Claudio Ranieri’s line-up.

The veteran was soon able to put his quality and leadership on display, with Roma supporters falling in love with him from the day one.

Despite many reports stating that his future was uncertain and that he could reconsider what to do at the end of the season, today’s edition of La Repubblica claims Hummels is close to extending his time in Italy.

In fact, the newspaper reports of a clause in his contract that would guarantee an automatic renewal until 2026 upon the completion of a set number of appearances.
