Mats Hummels is preparing to take the field as a starter in the Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise.
In Bruxelles, Hummels could finally show his international experience with 115 appearances in European cups, making a crucial contribution to Roma in a complicated moment for the team.
This season has had an uphill start for the German defender, who arrived in Rome with the prestige of a career as a leader but so far limited to a few minutes of play, culminating with an unfortunate own goal against Fiorentina.
At 36, Hummels is not in Rome for a “vacation,” as he recently joked on social media, but to bring order and security to a defense that is struggling to find stability.
In his long career, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport, Hummels has faced numerous turbulent moments and knows how to move in difficult contexts: last year at Borussia Dortmund, he was even accused of creating tensions in the locker room.
Now, in yellow and red, his goal is to calm the anxiety of his teammates and contribute on the pitch, using his vision and charisma in this new, delicate adventure.
