!–Article Start–> Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has been included in a Premier League Team of the Week selection, following his superb performance during Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

De Ligt saves United

Against Spurs, De Ligt started on the right side of Ruben Amorim’s three-man defence system, with Harry Maguire deployed in the middle.

As has largely been the case this season, De Ligt played well, producing a titanic performance at the back. This is until substitute Mathys Tel spun him before blasting the ball into the back of the net to draw Spurs level in the 84th minute of proceedings.

The ball deflected off De Ligt’s leg on its way in.

Things went from bad to worse for United as Richarlison scored another just moments later, completely flipping the game on its head and rendering Bryan Mbeumo’s opener worthless.

With United reduced to 10 men courtesy of Benjamin Sesko’s injury, all signs pointed to Ruben Amorim and his players suffering a fourth defeat of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

However, with the clock at 90+6, Bruno Fernandes planted a perfect cross into the box, inviting De Ligt to tower above everybody and head home to make it 2-2. De Ligt’s goal ensured the spoils were shared in North London.

Beyond his goal, De Ligt made an outstanding seven clearances, three recoveries and won four of the six duels he delved into.

He also completed 37 of the 43 passes he attempted.

De Ligt’s contributions have earned him a place in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week.

Statisticians WhoScored have handed De Ligt an impressive rating of 7.52.

Other defenders in the team are Matheus Nunes (Manchester City), Wesley Fofana (Chelsea) and Lucas Digne (Aston Villa).

De Ligt has been the picture of consistency for United so far this term, and has also clawed his way back into Ronald Koeman’s plans in the Netherlands national team.

He is in contention to play for his nation in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania.
