“Maybe you were on holiday?!” – Pep Guardiola issues spiky response to question on Manchester City’s current ‘dynamic’

Pep Guardiola issued a spiky response to one question surrounding how his Manchester City side must ‘change the dynamic’ following back-to-back defeats across competitions.

The Blues have won just twice in their last seven games in all competitions, having lost in their last two games on the road against Manchester United in the Premier League and Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League in the last week. Guardiola’s side are winless in the Premier League in 2026 and have made a sluggish start to the calendar year by all accounts.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Wolves, Guardiola was quizzed on his comments from midweek as he claimed his side must ‘change the dynamic’ off the back of difficult performances and results.

“Maybe you (reporter) were on holiday but one week ago we were in Newcastle and we won 0-2 at a team that are in the Champions League, how strong they are,” Guardiola said in a jibe.

“And after one week, it was a little bit of a surprise our behaviour in (Manchester) United, or maybe United was better.

“And my opinion against Bodo is just we missed in the boxes, the chances we had again, and the long balls and duels we were not aggressive enough, lost second balls because we are not specific players in that position.”

When later quizzed on the importance of Rodri to an up-turn in standards on the pitch, Guardiola added: “Do you think playing good or bad just depends on Rodri? Give him time; it’s 11 months (injured), you need time to recover.

“I know the reason why we are struggling now, I know 100% what’s happening with the team. I know it. So try to give a little bit more time and give it. Will it be enough? I don’t know.

“I know it’s a disaster having 13 points in the Champions League, I know, but there are eight teams with 13 points and one of them is one of the best teams in the world. But for them it’s fine, for us it’s a disaster. The standards are so high, guys.”

“We cannot lose games, right? We cannot, huh? Manchester City is so perfect that we cannot lose games, I know that. It is what it is, yeah.

“Yeah, you’re right; we have to change the dynamic and win games tomorrow (against Wolves) and next Wednesday (against Galatasaray).”

City cannot afford Arsenal extending their lead at the top of the Premier League beyond seven points, with three points against Wolves a must on Saturday as new signing Marc Guehi prepares to make his debut for the Blues.
