Real Madrid faced off against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano earlier today as they looked to earn a good result on the road in La Liga. Los Blancos made a slow start to the contest as they conceded the opening goal in the 14th minute when Robin Le Normand found the back of the net. However, Kylian Mbappe equalised for the visitors just 11 minutes later before Arda Guler completed the turnaround in the 36th minute. Alexander Sorloth equalised for Diego Simeone’s side in the dying embers of the first half as the two Madrid teams went into the half-time break with a 2-2 scoreline.

Julian Alvarez scored from the penalty spot in the 51st minute before getting his name on the scoresheet again in the 63rd minute. Xabi Alonso’s players failed to find a way back into the game and conceded another goal in injury time when Antoine Griezmann scored for the home team. The match ended with Real Madrid suffering a 5-2 defeat in the Madrid derby.

He came back to defend when needed, but struggled to impress going forward.

Valverde did his fair share of defending but made a costly error at the back.
