Kylian Mbappé added another milestone to his remarkable international career before France's World Cup semi-final against Spain, becoming his country's all-time appearance holder at the tournament.
The Real Madrid forward made his 21st World Cup appearance, moving ahead of former France captain and World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who previously held the record with 20. Antoine Griezmann sits third on 19 appearances, while Olivier Giroud and Raphaël Varane have each featured 18 times.
With either the World Cup final or the third-place play-off still to come, Mbappé could climb even higher on the all-time list before the tournament ends. He already ranks among the competition's most experienced players, trailing only the likes of Luka Modric and Paolo Maldini (23), Miroslav Klose (24), Lothar Matthäus (25), Cristiano Ronaldo (27) and Lionel Messi, who leads the way with 32 appearances.
The 27-year-old is already France's leading World Cup goalscorer, having scored 20 times to move well clear of Just Fontaine's long-standing tally of 13. He also remains firmly in contention to overtake Messi as the highest scorer in World Cup history before his international career is over.
