Kylian Mbappé has denied that Real Madrid’s doctors examined the wrong knee, a fresh flashpoint that again highlights the clout of his camp.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the leak of the alleged misdiagnosis is the latest move in a long-running narrative managed by the so‑called Mbappé clan, even after his 2024 arrival ended a seven‑year saga.
His influence has been evident since 2017, when, aged 18, he scored 26 goals for Monaco and reached the Champions League semi‑finals. The club complained that major teams had contacted the player’s camp without permission. Around him, mother and dealmaker Fayza Lamari leads, alongside father and mentor Wilfred Mbappé and lawyer Delphine Verheyden, who led a successful claim against PSG.
Real Madrid were among those to make an approach, having hosted Mbappé in 2012 when, at 13, he visited on Zinedine Zidane’s invitation. In June 2017 Madrid launched a major push, only for the forward to snub them in 2022 by renewing with PSG, a pattern that has consistently boosted his value.
That renewal underscored a familiar cycle of leaks and denials, with Lamari dismissing as completely false reports that preceded his extension to 2025. Legal action has also been a recurring tool when his camp believes interests are at stake.
The knee claim surfaced during the international break, was advanced by French media and was not immediately rebutted by the club. Mbappé later said it was false, cooling a row that could reignite with any setback.
This dynamic also shields against suggestions of a March “erasure”, with a key spell for Álvaro Arbeloa’s team and Manchester City looming. Mbappé came off the bench against Atlético and was unhappy, feeling fit to start, a message again relayed from a core that is testing Madrid’s management.
