Real Madrid entertained Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a positive result in their La Liga season opener. Los Blancos dominated the game in the first half but were held to a scoreless draw at the half-time break.

Kylian Mbappe finally opened the goal-scoring from the penalty spot in the 51st minute. Abel Bretones was sent off by the referee in injury time as Xabi Alonso’s men ended up grinding out a solid 1-0 win in front of their home fans.

The Belgian keeper didn’t have a save to make in the game and earned an easy clean sheet tonight.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6.5/10

He made one key chance going forward and was replaced after the hour mark.

CB: Eder Militao – 7/10

Militao was a rock at the back and did enough to keep a clean sheet.

CB: Dean Huijsen – 8/10

He made a lot of important clearances on the defensive end of the field and was a good presence on the ball as well.

LB: Alvaro Carreras – 7/10

He performed his defensive duties well and made two key chances in the opponent’s half.

CM: Federico Valverde – 6.5/10

Valverde worked his socks off at the centre of the park but struggled to influence the game in the final third.

CM: Aurelien Tchouameni – 6.5/10

He anchored the midfield well and was not shy of having a strike at goal.

CM: Arda Guler – 7/10

Guler was a positive influence at both ends of the field, but there was no goal for him.

RW: Brahim Diaz – 6.5/10

He made two inviting chances in the final third and was tidy with his passing.

ST: Kylian Mbappe – 9/10

Mbappe caused all sorts of problems for the opposition centre-back and scored the only goal of the contest from the penalty spot in the 51st minute.

LW: Vinicius Junior – 7/10

He caught the eye at times on the left flank but failed to register a goal.
