Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has once again found himself at the centre of transfer discussions, this time commenting on his club’s reported interest in Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano.
The French forward, who has been Real Madrid’s standout performer this season, recently shared his thoughts on the potential signing of his international teammate, giving an interesting insight into how highly he rates the Bayern centre-back.
When asked about Real Madrid’s pursuit of Upamecano, Mbappe did not hesitate to praise the defender’s qualities. He was quoted as L’Equipe as saying,
“Upamecano to Real Madrid? He is in the conversation for best defender in the world this season.”
Mbappe went on to elaborate on what makes his compatriot so special, adding, “He’s super dominant, beats attackers, wins duels. He’s a tactical asset.”
The 26-year-old striker also made a light-hearted remark when discussing Upamecano’s current club situation, saying,
“He’s in a great club, Bayern, there is not much better…but there is better (smiles).”
Finally, Mbappe concluded his statement by acknowledging the level of interest a player like Upamecano naturally attracts across Europe.

“I’m not going to say anything but when we talk about a player of this caliber, all the clubs will want to sign him.”
Upamecano, who remains a key part of Bayern Munich’s defensive setup, has a contract running until 2026.
It puts them under pressure to secure an extension soon, as Real Madrid continue to monitor his situation closely.
Reports in Spain suggest that Madrid see Upamecano as a potential addition to strengthen their backline, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the long-term fitness of several defenders.
Should Bayern fail to reach an agreement over a new contract, the Spanish giants could see an opportunity to make their move.
For now, Bayern Munich are keen to hold onto the French international and are confident of convincing him to stay.
However, Upamecano’s response to recent questions about his future has only added intrigue to the situation.
When asked about Madrid’s interest and Bayern’s renewal plans, he said, “We’ll make the right decision. I’m well advised,” before adding,
“I’m under contract at Bayern. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me.”
