Kylian Mbappe finally stepped up in the absence of Vinicius Jr and proved himself to be a match-winner in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Real Valladolid last night.

Entrusted with the responsibility of leading the attack, the Frenchman opened the scoring at the half-hour mark before making it 2-0 himself in the 57th minute.

Given a chance to complete his hat-trick in extra-time with a penalty kick, he stepped up and fired it home, racking up a special performance.

Mbappe’s ecstasy

Speaking after his man-of-the-match performance, Kylian Mbappe reflected on his hattrick and what it meant to him after a rough patch at the club.

“I am happy for the hat-trick, but above all for the victory. It was very important to win today because Atletico’s result put pressure on us,” he began.

“We started well, pressing in the opposition half field and we scored the first goal. After the break, there were ten minutes in which we could play better, but we scored the second and then managed it well. We’re going to Madrid with the victory,” he added.

The Frenchman then reflected on what the win meant to him and the entire dressing room as a confidence booster.

“This triumph gives us confidence, but it is not over until the final matchday. We always have to win because we are Real Madrid, but we must face the League with humility because there are many games left,” he said on the league title race.

After a rough start to life in Madrid, Mbappe is coming to life at the club and the player revealed the secret behind his resurgence in form

“I have played in the three attacking positions and I feel good in all three. The adaptation is over and I feel very good with my colleagues. Everything comes out naturally, but we have to keep going.”

The man of the match also spoke on how he prioritised the team’s needs over and above any personal goals he had in mind.

“I also have to help the whole team because what I want and want is for Madrid to win. What matters most to me is winning titles with the team.”

Finally, Mbappe gave his two cents on the upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Brest, saying,

“It’s going to be tough because at home they are hard, even if they play in Guingamp. We have to win because Real Madrid always has to win.”
