Scotland earned their first World Cup win since 1990 and top Group C after a nervy win of Haiti thanks to John McGinn's first-half strike.
With Morocco and Brazil drawing in the other game, Scotland knew that a winning return to this competition would set them up for the final two games.
Steve Clarke's side started well and almost took the lead in the 17th minute when Ben Gannon-Doak slid the ball to the on-rushing Scott McTominay whose shot bounced off of Johnny Placide's left-hand post.
Instead, Scotland had to wait until the 28th minute when John McGinn – starting ahead of Ryan Christie – had an effort that deflected in to put his side ahead.
Many would have expected Scotland to add to their advantage at that point but Haiti deserve credit for being resolute, even if in truth they didn't cause Angus Gunn too many issues.
The closest Haiti came was one of many crosses in from the right that Frantzdy Pierrot rose highest to meet but saw his header go just wide of the post.
The Scots managed to hold on though with the three points the most important thing in Boston ahead of their next game against Morocco next week.
