Memphis called up by Netherlands and could miss Corinthians in Brasileirão

Memphis Depay has been named in the Netherlands squad for March’s international window, a call-up that could see him miss Corinthians in the Brasileirão. According to Meu Timao, the CBF have not yet set the post-window schedule.
The Dutch will host two friendlies. They face Norway at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam, on 27 March at 16:45 Brasília time, then Ecuador at Eindhoven’s Philips Stadion on 31 March at 15:45.
With the league calendar still to be finalised, Memphis’ availability for Fluminense on one April remains uncertain. If Corinthians play on the base date, one day after the second friendly, the No 10 may not travel to the Maracanã.
Midfielder André Carillo has also been called up by Peru for friendlies against Senegal and Honduras in Europe, and is likewise likely to miss the Fluminense match.
These are the last friendlies before the final World Cup call-up. The Netherlands are in Group F with Japan, Tunisia and the winner of UEFA play-off B, one of Ukraine, Sweden, Poland or Albania. Their bracket crosses with Brazil in the first knockout round.
Memphis is the Netherlands’ record scorer and leading provider, with 55 goals and 36 assists in 108 caps. Since Ronald Koeman recalled him after his Corinthians move, he has played 10 internationals with 9 goals and 4 assists, 13 goal involvements, helping qualification.
Before the break, Corinthians host Flamengo on Sunday at 20:30 at Neo Química Arena in round eight of the Brasileirão.
