Memphis Depay has sustained a grade two muscle injury to his right thigh and is expected to miss around four weeks, according to Globo.com. The setback rules the Corinthians forward out of the Conmebol Libertadores opener.
Depay was hurt in the first half against Flamengo on Sunday, shortly after starting the move that produced Yuri Alberto’s goal. He went down holding his right thigh and signalled for a substitution.
On Monday he underwent medical tests that confirmed the diagnosis. He will complete part of his rehabilitation in the Netherlands during the international break, having been called up for friendlies against Norway and Ecuador.
If that timeframe is confirmed, the Dutchman would also miss three Brasileirão rounds and the first two group games of the Conmebol Libertadores.
In Depay’s absence, options to partner Yuri Alberto include Vitinho, Kayke, Jesse Lingard, Kaio César, who is injured, Pedro Raul and Gui Negão.
