Memphis Depay and Philippe Coutinho, the No 10s for Corinthians and Vasco, renew a rivalry forged in Europe in the Copa do Brasil final. According to Globo.com, their duel resumes this week.

In 2016, Coutinho's Liverpool beat Memphis's Manchester United 2-0 then drew 1-1 in the Europa League, Coutinho scored and Memphis did not feature.

In 2019, Lyon and Barcelona drew 0-0, then Barcelona won 5-1 in the Champions League, with Coutinho on the scoresheet.

In 2020, Coutinho's Bayern defeated Lyon 3-0 in the semi-final.

Across six games as opponents, Coutinho has three wins, two draws and one defeat, the latter in Corinthians 3-0 Vasco in 2025, and he knocked Memphis out in three European ties.

At Barcelona in 2021/22, they played together 15 times. Memphis started more as Coutinho's role waned.

Coutinho joined Barcelona in 2018 for 130 million euros, started well, then injuries after his Bayern loan undermined him. He was loaned and later sold to Aston Villa, then moved to Al-Duhail before Vasco.

Memphis arrived on a free after leaving Lyon, then lost ground after Ronald Koeman left. Under Xavi he was sold to Atlético de Madrid for about 3 million euros.

For Barcelona, Coutinho played 106 games with 26 goals and 12 assists, Memphis 42 with 14 and two.

Now both chase the 2025 Copa do Brasil and a first national title in Brazil. The first leg is Wednesday, 21:30, at Neo Química Arena, the return on Sunday, 18:00, at Maracanã.
