Merentiel a doubt for Boca’s must-win Católica tie after muscle injury

Boca Juniors suffered a setback on Saturday as Miguel Merentiel sustained a muscle injury, leaving the forward a serious doubt for the decisive Copa Libertadores meeting with Universidad Católica de Chile. Boca must win to reach the last 16.

According to SuperDepor.com, the Uruguayan did not take part in training ahead of Thursday 28 at La Bombonera, while the club awaits the official medical report.

The final round in Group D has Católica on 10 points, Cruzeiro on 8, Boca on 7 and Barcelona de Ecuador on 3.

Their attacking options had already been thinned by the loss of Paraguayan Adam Bareiro to a muscle injury affecting the adductor and the rectus anterior of the left abdomen.

Claudio Úbeda will now have to choose a replacement, with Milton Giménez, Ángel Romero or Exequiel Zeballos in contention.
