Metz and Nantes drew 0-0 in their survival scrap, the point leaving both trailing Auxerre, the play-off side. Metz have now failed to score in seven of their past nine Ligue 1 matches.
According to L'Équipe, Nantes' clean sheet owed much to Anthony Lopes, while Habib Diallo embodied Metz’s lack of edge. Lopes saved from Jessy Deminguet on 11 minutes. Ignatius Ganago then blazed over a big chance on 29 after Matthis Abline's rare contribution. Tylel Tati was sent off on 39 minutes for a reckless tackle on Koffi Kouao.
Lopes produced a superb double stop to deny Bouna Sarr on 42 minutes. Nantes changed at the break, Fabien Centonze off for Ali Yousuf and Ganago for Deiver Machado.
Abline later made way for Herba Guirassy on 73 minutes, soon after Lopes was alert to Gauthier Hein’s volley on 76. At the other end Pape Sy blocked efforts from Johann Lepenant on 79 and Guirassy on 88, underlining his assured display.
Sarr, lively throughout, was replaced by Lucas Michal on 80. In stoppage time Hein thought he had nicked it, but VAR ruled a marginal offside on 90+5.
