Ilet began the challenge when the Red Devils were struggling to put wins together under previous manager Erik ten Hag, though things did improve slightly during Ruben Amorim’s reign as head coach.

On two separate occasions, Ilet has been close to shaving his hair. Firstly in January last year when United won three games in a row across all competitions, but fell short of the target when they were beaten at home by Crystal Palace.

Then earlier in the season following wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, only for a 2-2 draw away at Nottingham Forest which meant Ilet was forced to press the reset button.

However, after Man United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham at the weekend - following on from victories over Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham - Ilet has moved one step closer to a long overdue haircut.

Man United face West Ham on Tuesday night hoping to make it five wins in a row, and Carrick says he has not been keeping a close eye on the viral stunt but learned about 'The United Strand' through his children.

Speaking ahead of Man United’s clash against West Ham, Carrick has joked that Ilet’s stunt will not be making it into his pre-match team talk.

"I can say I'm aware of it, yeah," Carrick told reporters. "My kids have made me aware of it, if anything, but it certainly won't go into the team talk from a professional level.

"I can understand what's going on with it and it does make me smile but it won't have an impact ultimately in the end."
