Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick says no decision has been made over Marcus Rashford’s (28) future, with the forward’s return to Old Trafford still a possibility next season, BBC Sport reports.
Rashford is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona after falling out of favour at United. The Spanish club have until 15 June to trigger a €30m (£26.1m) option to buy, with United understood to be unwilling to renegotiate the terms of the agreement.
With Rashford still under contract at United for another two years, and likely to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, the situation remains unresolved. His wages are also set to rise by 25% next season if United qualify for the Champions League.
“There’s decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,” Carrick said. “But at this point in time, nothing’s been decided.”
Rashford would become United’s highest earner if Casemiro leaves in the summer, at a time when minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is pushing to reduce the club’s wage bill.
Carrick, who is in interim charge and among the leading contenders to take the job permanently, insisted his focus remains on the current squad as United prepare for their Premier League trip to Chelsea, though suspensions and injuries have left his defensive options stretched.
