Michael Edwards is now about to pull off a genius Liverpool transfer.

Since returning to the club as FSG's Head of Football Operations, Edwards has played a major role in overseeing Liverpool's rebuild and the significant investment made in the squad last summer.

It was a transfer window that brought plenty of excitement, with the club targeting a number of highly-rated young players who were viewed as important pieces for the future.

So far, though, the results have been mixed.

While there have been encouraging signs from some of the new arrivals particularly Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, the squad overhaul hasn't fully come together yet.

Given the age profile of many of the signings, fans will remain patient it will gel. Edwards has a brilliant track-record when it comes to recruitment and he is known for making smart decision.

Liverpool have clearly invested in potential as much as proven quality, and these projects often take time before the benefits become obvious.

The questions surrounding Edwards aren't solely about recruitment, however.

When he returned to Liverpool, there was a widespread expectation that he would help drive FSG's plans for a multi-club model, similar to the structures used by clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea. At the time, it seemed like a major part of Liverpool's future strategy.

Fast forward to now, and that project appears to have taken a back seat.

There has been very little movement on that front, in fact some sources around the club have suggested that the idea has become 'dormant.'

That uncertainty has naturally led to questions about Edwards' long-term future. His current contract runs until 2027, and there has been little public discussion about what happens beyond that point.

Despite the speculation, Edwards' focus is still expected to remain on strengthening Liverpool's position both on and off the pitch ahead of what will be a massive summer.

His track record at Anfield speaks for itself, and few people have played a bigger role in the club's success over the last decade.

For now, with the focus away from the multi-club model, Edwards will have more time to invest in helping to assist Richard Hughes in the club's next phase of its rebuild.

That should see Yan Diomande arrive. And a fair few new signings alongside the Ivorian. It should also see Liverpool return to what they did best under Edwards.

During his first stint with Liverpool, Edwards became renowned for being the smartest guy in football. He didn't pursue 'obvious' moves. He was able to get a step ahead of the market by bringing in under the radar gems.

Mohamed Salah when Julian Brandt was available is a great example. Or signing Diogo Jota over Timo Werner.

But there are countless others, the best of the lot was probably bringing in Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim or Andy Robertson from Hull City, with both of them becoming world-class footballers at Anfield.

This is what Liverpool need to do now as they rebuild Andoni Iraola's squad and look to provide him with the necessary depth to be able to compete in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

And it looks like it's exactly what Edwards is doing. He might just be at it again if the latest report is to be believed.

According to TEAMtalk Liverpool are in the mix to sign South Korean centre-back Lee Han-beom who plays for FC Midtjylland and who has one year left on his contract.

The report claims scouts have been impressed by Lee's ability on the ball and how he can adapt to different tactical roles within the team.

The 23-year-old sounds like an absolute bargain and he caught the eye in South Korea's opening game at the World Cup.
