The club said in a statement that Míchel Sánchez is ending his spell at Girona, departing after relegation to Segunda División following a final-day draw with Elche.
Míchel arrived in the summer of 2021 and became central to the team’s development and playing identity during his time in charge.
In his first season he secured promotion to Primera via the play-off, sealed in Tenerife. He led the side in 221 official matches, establishing himself as one of the club’s most significant coaches in recent years.
Under his guidance Girona enjoyed one of their brightest periods, consolidating in LaLiga with a bold, recognisable style and finishing third in 2023/24 to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
The club expressed its gratitude for his dedication, commitment and professionalism, and for the considerate, respectful manner he showed towards members, supporters, the leadership and all staff.
