Middlesbrough host Millwall at the Riverside Stadium today, aiming to halt a three-game winless run and cement their automatic promotion spot.
The hosts have moved into a difficult phase of the season. Manager Kim Hellberg has overseen just two victories in his last eight matches. Consequently, Boro now trail the league leaders by nine points.
Middlesbrough have also struggled on their own turf recently. They are winless in their last four home league games. Interestingly, they have scored only three goals across their last five home appearances.
Kim Hellberg manages a squad facing several late fitness assessments. Aidan Morris and Riley McGree both return from long-haul flights after international duty. The manager must decide if they are fresh enough to start.
Statistically, Morris has taken more shots without scoring than any other Championship player. Hayden Hackney could return to the midfield following a calf injury. Alternatively, Tommy Conway and David Strelec remain under observation.
Sol Brynn will start in goal behind a projected back three. Luke Ayling, Dael Fry, and Emmanuel Malanda are expected to anchor the defence. In midfield, Hackney should partner Morris to provide tactical control.
Jeremy Sarmiento and Leo Castledine will provide the creative support for the striker. Boro have won four of their last six games against Millwall. They will rely on that record to overcome their recent goal drought today.
Middlesbrough Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Brynn; Ayling, Fry, Malanda; Brittain, Hackney, Morris, Targett; Castledine, Sarmiento; Conway
