Miguel Merentiel is pushing to face Universidad Católica despite a muscle injury, with Boca’s Copa Libertadores progress on the line. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the club’s medics have confirmed the issue ahead of a decisive group finale at La Bombonera.

The Uruguayan sat out training for a second straight day this morning, after missing yesterday’s session as well. The problem has been described as a soleus tear that could rule him out.

Even so, Miguel Merentiel does not want to miss the last match of the semester and is said to have decided to take an injection to start the game on Thursday 28 May at 21:30.

The coaching staff led by Claudio Úbeda must now decide whether he can be risked given the injury, which would ordinarily require several days of recovery. There are four training sessions left to settle the starting line-up.

Boca may have to reshape the side. Adam Bareiro is also injured and is working to recover in time, although it is very difficult for him to make it.

Edinson Cavani has been building up sessions with the group and hopes for a chance, though the staff still view him as short of match fitness.
