San Sebastián’s City Hall balcony echoed 1987, as Real Sociedad paraded the Copa, Mikel Oyarzabal first to appear. According to Diario Vasco, he set the trophy on the railing and addressed a packed Alderdi Eder.

The captain thanked supporters across Gipuzkoa, recalling the 4 March win over Athletic and an unforgettable trip to Sevilla. He noted they could not celebrate five years ago because of Covid, then led the club’s Basque counting war cry.

Matarazzo addressed fans in Basque, apologising for slips and saying he is delighted with the journey while stressing it feels like only the beginning. He praised the backing that has empowered his players and thanked the city’s passion.

Goalkeeper Marrero followed, revelling in Gipuzkoa’s streets and saluting the unseen Zubieta staff who care for the squad. After difficult spells in his career, he said his foremost strength is now front of mind.

Only those three were due on the balcony, yet chants brought Óskarsson out to acknowledge the crowd. In sunglasses, the Icelander cranked up the noise as flares lit, then kept it brief with thanks.

Aritz Elustondo closed with a tearful address before steering the stage show. It appeared he may be entering his final weeks in txuri-urdin colours, with conversations still to come.

He also channelled Imanol Alguacil’s La Cartuja rallying cry from that marvellous 3 April, a nod to the coach who reset the club’s Cup standards. As the captain lifted the Cup, analyst Héctor Ibáñez waved the giant Aitor Zabaleta banner.
