Max Allegri and Igli Tare will have meetings with Mike Maignan next week, trying to talk him into a new Milan contract after talks with Chelsea collapsed.

The goalkeeper is only tied down until June 2026, as the agreement he reached in March was never signed, prompting his irritation and desire to walk away.

It has also been a chaotic campaign, with two different coaches – now a third in Allegri – and the failure to even qualify for a UEFA competition.

However, after Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with Milan in time for the Club World Cup, that gave the Rossoneri an opportunity to work on Maignan.

Calciomercato.com note that Allegri and new director of sport Tare will sit the France international down next week and try to convince him that this is a project worth sticking with.

Milan confirm Allegri’s return to the club.

It is a risky tactic, as they could lose him for free next summer, able to already negotiate with another club from February 2026.

They believe that bringing in new goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi, who had been at Juventus from 2010 to 2024, could also be a factor in convincing Maignan to stay.

Chelsea remain on the backburner, but are not prepared to pay more than €15m plus bonuses.
