Milan Likely Destined for a Hurtful Mass Exodus

Milan are taking their sweet time in rebuilding their management and finding their next coach. Once that happens, their new decision-makers will have to deal with the fact that many of their linchpins have one foot out the door, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

Rafael Leao already announced his exit. While he hasn’t received solid offers for now, it’ll be a matter of when and where to, not if. Despite often being a lightning rod, he’s been the face of the team for a few years, notching 80 goals and 65 assists in 300 appearances.

Luka Modric will decide after the World Cup, but Milan are pessimistic about his permanence without the UEFA Champions League. In addition, Adrien Rabiot joined them mostly to reunite with Massimiliano Allegri. He inked a three-year contract but could engineer a move to Napoli.

Mike Maignan re-upped his expiring deal not too long ago, but he’s not a lock to stay either. He had bonded with their previous manager and his staff, who were instrumental in his decision. It wouldn’t be an issue had they had more stability, but their new brass will have to reel him in. Juventus are eyeing him, but his price tag would eventually be mammoth.

Most of the players on the bubble, like Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Santiago Gimenez, are likely to be on their way out as well.

Our Take on Milan

Their summer is bound to be extra busy and isn’t exactly off to a roaring start. While Leao has run his course, they should do what they can to convince their other three centerpieces. Otherwise, constructing a credible roster will be a daunting and very expensive endeavor.
