It was reported by Sacha Tavolieri that the defender was close to a move to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.

It was claimed that talks were in advanced stage over a possible deal worth up to €12 (£10.3) million, but ultimately nothing came to fruition.

Van Ewijk has started each of the Sky Blues’ five league games so far this season, and has even provided three assists.

However, he faces increased competition for game time in Frank Lampard’s side now with the arrival of Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa.

Van Ewijk has dismissed the speculation surrounding his future at Coventry, suggesting it is just internet talk and that there wasn’t anything to it.

His goal is to keep playing well and competing for the Sky Blues, with the club setting their sights on a push for promotion to the Premier League this season.

“Oh, you read a lot of things but I’ll just leave it at how that is on the internet,” said van Ewijk, via Coventry Live.

“I’m still here and, you know, I’m playing well and I hope to keep on going like that.”

Van Ewijk made the move to Coventry from Dutch side Herenveen in the 2023 summer transfer window.

The full-back has cemented himself as a key part of the first team squad at the CBS Arena in that time, making a total of 92 appearances in the Championship in all.

He contributed two goals and five assists in his first campaign, following by another two goals and two assists last season.

The 24-year-old has become a standout talent in the division, with Premier League side Fulham also linked with a move for him last summer.

Van Ewijk has a contract with Coventry until the summer of 2027, with the side currently sixth in the Championship table.

Coventry City did well to hold onto Milan van Ewijk

Kesler-Hayden has obviously arrived from Aston Villa, although he is injured at the minute, so Coventry would’ve had cover if Van Ewijk had left.

But they have done extremely well to hold onto someone of his talent, as he is a player with Premier League quality.

The full-back already has three assists in the league from five games, which shows the creative attacking threat that he brings to Lampard’s side.

If he can continue performing well, then Coventry will have a better chance at fighting for promotion this year than if they’d cashed in on the Dutchman during the end of the summer window, especially with some competition to push him to improve his level this season.
