Inter Milan and AC Milan have turned out the opportunity to renovate the current San Siro ground in favor of building a new stadium in the same region, confirms Milano Mayor Giuseppe Sala.

A crunch meeting took place earlier today at the headquarters of the Milano Municipality. It included representatives from both clubs in addition to Sala and WeBuild officials.

As reported earlier, Inter and Milan rendered their final decision, refusing to embark on a renovation project.

This has been in the air over the past few days. The two Serie A giants seemingly consider building a new stadium to be a more beneficial project than renovating an old ground.

After the meeting, Sala confirmed the two clubs’ decision, while explaining what they have in mind.

“Their proposal is, at this point, to return to the idea of a new stadium in the San Siro area,” said the City Mayor via FcInterNews.

“As you know, it is a very long process. There is a lot of work behind it. The positive thing I see is that we are not starting from scratch but from a series of actions that we have already undertaken.”

Sala Reveals Inter Milan & AC Milan Requests Regarding New San Siro Stadium Plan

Moreover, Sala revealed that Inter and Milan made three requests. The plan’s feasibility will be decided based on the answers.

“To be able to say with certainty that we will proceed in this direction, there are three things that the teams are asking for.

“First, they want to know what is the value of San Siro and its surrounding areas. I made it clear to them that I entrusted the Revenue Agency with the evaluation.

“The second issue is to understand in more detail the constraint of the Superintendency. Hence, we scheduled a meeting for this particular issue next week.

“The third request is to know the timing of the operation, starting from today.

“They must present us with a fairly short-term project that includes on the one hand the new stadium and on the other a re-functionalization of San Siro on which they are working.”

For his part, Sala is seeking guarantees that the two clubs will be exclusively focusing on the San Siro plan. They must thus ditch all other solutions.

“I have made only one request. In order to start the procedures I need confirmation that this will be the only hypothesis that will remain on the table.”
