QPR attacking pairing back in action will have Millwall worried
QPR have been handed a huge double boost as their attacking duo returning from injury will have Millwall worried.
After a slow start to their Championship campaign for Queens Park Rangers, having endured an astounding 7-1 battering by table-toppers Coventry, that defeat seemed to have been the turning point in the R's season, with Julien Stephan's side being unbeaten in their last six fixtures, including four wins in that run.
With an international break upon us, it's a break that no one involved at Loftus Road would've wanted due to their current momentum, and they will hope that the temporary stoppage doesn't halt their progression.
The Hoops currently occupy the final play-off spot with Millwall next on the calendar, and with their London rivals also enjoying a promising opening to the season, it will for sure be another tough test.
However, one positive from the international period is the return of their attacking duo, Kwame Poku and Ilias Chair, who will for sure strike fear into their opposition.
After being brought to the club from current League One strugglers Peterborough in the summer, Poku's start to life for the R's hasn't quite gone as planned for the Ghananian, as the winger was nailed on to be one of the forwardmen to take QPR to the next level having accumulated 20 goal contributions in merely 27 league games last year for the Posh.
The 24-year-old sustained a hamstring injury in the R's opening day 1-1 draw against Preston, which has kept him sidelined until now where he is set to return to the fray ahead of their clash with the Lions on Saturday lunchtime. Poku was forced off in the 67th-minute against the Lilywhites but seeks to continue his quality form last season, this time however, for his new club.
His reintroduction will for sure bring a buzz of excitement around Loftus Road, and whether that's in a starting role or from off the bench is yet to be determined. But one thing for sure is that Millwall will need to be ready as the best of the young winger is yet to be unleashed in a QPR shirt.
Moroccan international Ilias Chair is also set to return to action for the R's after picking up a back problem after their 2-1 away defeat to Watford in mid-August.
The absence of the pairing, despite not showing in terms of the results, has been a big loss to Stephan's side due to the goal threat that they bring. Having both Poku and Chair back in time to face Alex Neil's side is a huge bonus, as a win against their local rivals could take them as high as 3rd in the table to the 3pm kick-offs taking place.
With the R's faithful having high expectations coming into the season after completing shrewd business in the summer transfer window, their hopes have been translated into points on the board, and with injury woes starting to ease, now is the time for Stephan and QPR to really kick on.
Poku and Chair are both two key players at Loftus Road, and having them back in the fold will have everyone in West London delighted to have them back in action at such a critical time.
After having the international break to get back up to speed, it still comes as no dead certainty that the duo will slot straight back into Stephan's starting XI due to the R's recent form.
The manager's methods at this current time are obviously working and could well be a case of 'if it's not broken, don't fix it'. With the likes of Richard Kone and Harvey Vale in their armoury, who are performing to a high standard. Despite having Chair and Poku now at his disposal, we will wait and see the approach the manager takes against Millwall at the weekend.
