Milos Kerkez Joins Liverpool: Dominik Szoboszlai’s Influence, Expectations and New Era at Anfield

Liverpool’s summer transfer business continues to build momentum, with Milos Kerkez confirmed as the club’s latest signing. The Hungarian left-back arrives during an increasingly assertive window for the Reds, following the high-profile acquisitions of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. But Kerkez’s move isn’t just a matter of reinforcing the squad — it represents a statement of intent, particularly given the influence of international teammate Dominik Szoboszlai.

This summer has marked a significant shift from Liverpool’s previously cautious approach to the market. After a relatively dormant 18 months post-2023, the arrival of three marquee names signals a return to aggressive squad building. Arne Slot, fresh off a title-winning debut season, is clearly shaping a team in his image.

Szoboszlai’s Crucial Role in Kerkez Decision

While Liverpool’s recruitment team has undoubtedly been working with precision, the Kerkez transfer carries a personal edge. His long-standing friendship with Dominik Szoboszlai, a growing figure at the club, played a vital role in his decision to join.

Speaking in his first interview with LFCTV, Kerkez was clear on the part his compatriot played.

“He’s a really, really close, very good friend of mine. Every second or third day we are talking, he’s good to have as a friend and he’s going to make it easier, showing me around, everything. It will be good to have him here.”

That endorsement went far beyond a casual thumbs-up.

“He said just that when you come here you’re going to see that it’s the top of football. You’re going to see the people and everyone around the club from food and training, from the kitchen to the physios. Everything is professional and you’re going to see the highest level in football, and obviously that I should come, now here I am!”

Szoboszlai, who has quickly settled in as one of Liverpool’s cultural and tactical centrepieces, continues to have an influence beyond the pitch. For Kerkez, that familiar presence may help fast-track his adaptation to a team aiming to sustain its domestic dominance while pushing deeper into European competition.

Positioning Kerkez in Slot’s Tactical Framework

Kerkez’s arrival strengthens an area where Liverpool have long required more depth. While Andy Robertson’s leadership and experience remain invaluable, the Scot has seen injuries and age gradually reduce his availability. Kerkez, at 21, offers energy and modern full-back credentials — pace, aggression and the ability to invert or overlap when required.

Slot’s preferred system, reliant on positional rotation and aggressive wing play, should suit Kerkez’s dynamic approach. His performances at Bournemouth caught the eye for their intensity, and he has the athleticism and game intelligence to transition into a title-challenging side.

Shirt Number Still Unconfirmed for Kerkez

As is the case with fellow new signings Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, Kerkez’s squad number remains unannounced. Having worn the No. 3 shirt at Bournemouth, he may have to opt for an alternative given Wataru Endo’s continued presence in the squad.

Supporters eager to customise new kits with his name will need to wait until Liverpool confirm numbers later in the summer. Regardless of what he wears on his back, Kerkez is set to become a key component of a Liverpool side that’s evolving quickly under new management.
