Egyptian king will leave after nine years on Merseyside
Mohamed Salah struggled to hold back tears as he bid farewell to Liverpool.
The winger is set to leave Anfield after nine years on Merseyside, where he has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.
He has scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for the Reds, and he will finally depart the club when his contract expires come the end of June.
He played his final minutes in a Liverpool shirt in the 1-1 draw against Brentford, laying on an assist for Curtis Jones’ opener.
Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, Salah admitted that it had been an emotional goodbye.
Left-back Andy Robertson was also waved off by the home support, with the Scot also leaving Anfield at the end of his deal.
Waving goodbye: Mohamed Salah
"I think I cried more than in my whole life,” the Egyptian said.
“I'm not really an emotional guy. We lived our youth here, sharing everything from the beginning to the end. We put this club back where it belongs. He [Andy Robertson] is loved because he gives his all in the field. They love him for that.
"It's tricky to leave Liverpool. He's very important for the team and for that period of time we had. I'm really honoured to share a dressing room with him. He was there for the team. I am very blessed to share a dressing room with him.
"It's life. I look back and wonder if I would have wanted more than I achieved. Not really. We won it all. We see the love from the fans and this is the most important thing for me.
"I will be far away from here. I will be emotional every time. I hope the team stays in the position, fighting for everything."
This term, Salah has been at the centre of two notable public outbursts - the first after being left on the bench for the draw at Leeds, where he claimed to have been “thrown under the bus” by the club, as well as insisting that he and Arne Slot had no relationship.
Earlier this month, he issued a statement on social media taking aim at the club’s style of play amid fan unrest and an underwhelming title defence.
He has played fewer times this season as a result of rotation and injury, but he still played 41 times in all competitions, scoring 12 goals as Liverpool finished in the Champions League places.
