Mohamed Salah hits out at Liverpool over contract silence: 'More out than in'

Salah’s current contract expires at the end of the season

Mohamed Salah admitted he is “disappointed” with Liverpool after revealing he has not yet received a contract offer from the club.

The Egyptian’s current deal expires at the end of the season and his future at Anfield remains uncertain.

Salah scored twice against Southampton on Sunday as Liverpool moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, with the 32-year-old already having 12 goals to his name in all competitions this season.

However, speaking after that match, Salah voiced his frustration as he increased the pressure on the Liverpool hierarchy, suggesting he is more likely to leave the club next summer than stay.

“Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club,” Salah said “I’m probably more out than in.

“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”

Pressed on whether he was disappointed by the lack of progress, Salah responded: “Of course, yeah.

“I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed but we will see.”

He added: “I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”

Salah was asked about rumours of a possible move to Saudi Arabia, but he shut that down: “I don’t want to speak about that.”

The ongoing discussions about contract issues have been the one negative element to an otherwise impressive start to the season for Liverpool under Arne Slot.

The club sit top of the Premier League and Champions League tables, but Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all be free to sign pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs from January.

Salah will turn 33 in June, but he insisted he has no plans to slow down.

“As you see I am very professional,” Salah said.

“Everybody sees my work. I’m just trying to enjoy my football. I will play at the top level for as long as possible.”
