Mohamed Salah's representatives have made a response to his omission from the African Player of the Year award with a shocking claim.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released its annual nominees for the African Player of the Year award.

Despite a strong start to the season with Liverpool, Mohamed Salah was surprisingly not on the 10-man shortlist, which included former Everton attacker Ademola Lookman, who scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final earlier this year.

Lookman's inclusion is probably warranted. However, there were some eyebrow raising inclusions on the list, including Chancel Mbemba, who earned the nomination after leading his country to the semi-finals at AFCON.

Another questionable nominee over Salah is Amine Gouiri, who scored just 11 goals as a forward at club level last season and found the back of the net four times in 10 international caps for Algeria.
