Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has said Mohamed Salah will ultimately regret his explosive interview following the 3-3 draw at Leeds United in December.
The Egyptian made stunning comments after being dropped to the bench against Leeds in the away Premier League match.
He accused the club of throwing him under the bus and said his relationship with the Reds boss Arne Slot has collapsed.
Salah’s explosive interview fueled speculations of a January exit, but a move didn’t materialise.
However, the forward announced last month he will leave the Merseyside club in the summer after agreeing to end his contract a year early.
Gerrard believes Salah will ultimately regret his bombshell interview that damaged his reputation.
Asked if he was shocked by the 33-year-old’s imminent departure, the former Liverpool captain said: “No, not at all. I think it’s in everyone’s best interests now. I think the timing’s right.
“He’s obviously had a disagreement with the manager. I don’t know at what level. He’s obviously done the interview, which I think he’ll regret further down the line. But that told that there was an issue there.”
Salah will depart as one of the most successful players in the modern history of Liverpool.
He has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, powering the Reds to two Premier League titles and a Champions League.
The experienced forward has endured a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, but he has still made 11 direct goal contributions in 22 Premier League games.
Salah is now likely to move to the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Ittihad reportedly leading the race for his signature.
The Major League Soccer (MLS) is also an attractive option for the Egypt international, where high-profile names like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Son Heung-min are already playing.
