Moises Caicedo wants to become a Chelsea legend after signing a new long-term contract with the club.

In a major boost to the Blues during their battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the Ecuador midfielder is now tied to Stamford Bridge until 2033 in a move that has shown faith in the under-fire owners BlueCo despite fans reiterating an “erosion of trust”.

Caicedo has played 140 times for the Blues since his £115m move from Brighton in 2023 and played a key role in the Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs.

“I am so happy to have extended my contract at Chelsea. I believe in this team, this club and I know we’re going in the right direction. We’ve only just begun together,” Caicedo told the club’s official website.

“There is still a lot more to achieve, and I’m very hungry to keep improving every day. I want to win more trophies with Chelsea and give everything for this club and for the fans.

“We have enjoyed some great times together already and my dream is to become a Chelsea legend, and I will work as hard as possible to make that happen.”

Caicedo has been a near ever-present in midfield this season, and is central to Chelsea's long-term planning. Securing his commitment follows captain Reece James's new deal in March, marking a second crucial contract boost.

The club's willingness to increase the 24-year-old's pay is understood to be a reward for his indispensable services and their belief in his crucial role for the club's future success.

Chelsea's policy typically involves lower base salaries with heavy incentives for individual and collective performance, a strategy that has led to suggestions some stars are underpaid.

This commitment from Caicedo arrives at a critical moment for Chelsea, who are enduring an awful run of form that has severely threatened their hopes of playing in next season's Champions League.

With just one Premier League win in their last seven, they now sit four points behind Liverpool for the final qualification spot. Their upcoming match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday is pivotal for keeping their European aspirations alive.

Despite these positive contract developments, doubts persist over the futures of other key players.

Enzo Fernandez was reprimanded and suspended internally for two matches after openly courting Real Madrid in a podcast while away on international duty.

Separately, Marc Cucurella publicly challenged the club’s decision-making on recruitment and the sacking of former manager Enzo Maresca, while also admitting that it would be difficult to turn down an approach from Barcelona.
