Monaco await Conference League play-off draw, potential ties include Getafe, Benfica and Besiktas | OneFootball

Monaco, Ligue 1’s seventh last season and the competition’s only French representative, will learn their Conference League play-off opponents on Monday, seeded but not immune to a tough draw.

According to L'Équipe, the draw is at 14:00 in Nyon, with ties on 20 and 27 August. Monaco enter the main path alongside Atalanta, Fribourg, Brighton and Getafe.

The field will be completed by 26 winners from the third qualifying round and seven Europa League main-path losers.

Getafe are among the 37 possible opponents, and also visit Louis-II for a friendly on Thursday at 20:00. They finished 7th in La Liga last season.

Coefficient transfers from the Europa League could drop Benfica or Besiktas into Monaco’s path. Nations with three clubs, Finland, Scotland and Israel, are likelier opponents.

A kinder draw could bring FC Vaduz or Auda.

French sides rarely cruise through this round. Rennes eased past Rosenborg, but Nice needed extra time to defeat Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Lille and Strasbourg were pushed by Rijeka and Brondby, and Lens went out to Panathinaïkos in 2024.

Later rounds have proved more fruitful, with Marseille and Strasbourg reaching the semi-finals, and Nice and Lille the quarter-finals. If they qualify, Monaco would add six European matches between 15 October and 17 December.
