Enzo Fernandez is not going to feature today, and Sam Wallace has speculated that things could be even worse behind the scenes than we think.

Sam Wallace’s piece for the Daily Telegraph today is all about the big team news from today’s game that everyone is talking about long before the team sheets have been handed in: Enzo Fernandez’s exclusion from the squad.
He points out the wild self-sabotage of the move, and draws interesting conclusion between the difference in treatment for Fernandez and Marc Cucurella following their respective comments in the international break.
“That [Chelsea] have forgiven Marc Cucurella for some similar misgivings expressed on international duty suggests that the Fernández situation is, in private, rather more fraught than anyone is admitting.”
That’s backed up by some of manager Liam Rosenior’s comments referring to private conversations. The more Rosenior (and more recently, Fernandez’s camp) protest that all is well, the more one senses the opposite is likely true.
It suits everyone now to have this incident buried – but in the summer, if Fernandez really wants his move (or really wants his new contract) he will need to start causing trouble again.
A big win over Port Vale boosted morale at Chelsea – but a heavy defeat today would unto that in a stroke.
Rosenior also spoke about the way he wanted his team to play in today’s game, promising attacking football from the off.
