According to an update from AS, Real Madrid could be handed a major advantage in their pursuit of Ibrahima Konate, as the Liverpool defender continues to face mounting criticism in England.
The situation, which has created growing uncertainty over his future at Anfield, is reportedly working in Madrid’s favour, bringing the Frenchman closer to rejecting a contract renewal with Liverpool.
Real Madrid’s interest in Konate is not new. With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger both nearing the end of their contracts, Los Blancos are carefully planning a defensive overhaul ahead of next season.
The club’s priority is to strengthen its backline with a reliable, physically dominant centre-back and Konate perfectly fits that profile.
The 26-year-old’s current deal with Liverpool runs until 2026, but talks of renewal have stalled amid criticism from fans and media.
This scenario raises the possibility of Real Madrid signing him on a free transfer if no agreement is reached.

Konate himself has reportedly acknowledged that he is aware of Real Madrid’s interest and the potential opportunity that lies ahead.
At Liverpool, Arne Slot appears to be taking a cautious approach with the Frenchman, which has only fuelled speculation about his diminishing role.
During the recent defeat against Chelsea, Konate was substituted early in the second half, and Slot did not shy away from expressing dissatisfaction with his display.
Inside the club, however, Liverpool’s stance remains optimistic. The Reds are said to be quietly confident of reaching a renewal agreement to prevent losing the defender for free.
But for now, that optimism is not backed by progress – only intent.
For Real Madrid, this uncertainty presents a valuable opening. Konate’s age, experience, and profile make him an ideal fit for a long-term defensive project.
If Liverpool fail to resolve the situation soon, Madrid could take full advantage and land one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders without paying a transfer fee.
