Jose Mourinho has said Real Madrid will be a 'wounded king' ahead of facing Benfica in the Champions League tomorrow.

Benfica face Real Madrid in Lisbon tomorrow the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie. It's an immediate rematch for the two teams, following a chaotic clash in the league phase.

In the final round of fixtures, Benfica snatched progress in dramatic fashion as goalkeeperAnatoliy Trubin scoring a 98th-minute header to send the Portuguese side into the knockout stages.

Real Madrid had started the night third in the table but fell out of the top eight - and into the play-offs - as a result of that defeat.

As Mourinho prepares to face his former team once again, the 63-year-old warned Benfica to expect a 'wounded' Real Madrid side to be dangerous.

"They are wounded. And a wounded king is dangerous," Benfica boss Mourinho said at his pre-match press conference.

"We will play the first leg with our heads, ambition and confidence. We know what we did to the kings of the Champions League.

"Trubin won't be in the attack at the Luz stadium. I'm very used to these kinds of ties.

"I've been doing it all my life. People often think you need a certain result in the first leg for this or that reason. I say there is no definitive result."

Mourinho will set a newChampions League record when he leads Benfica out at The Estádio da Luz tomorrow night. The Portuguese coach will become the first manager in the competition's history to manage seven different clubs in a knockout tie.

Mourinho has previously managed FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League's knockout rounds.

Despite the rich history of both teams in this competition, tomorrow will be only the fifth meeting between Benfica and Real Madrid in the European Cup or Champions League.
