Newcastle United eased past Leicester City at the King Power Stadium with Jacob Murphy scoring a brace in a 3-0 win.

Both teams named unchanged XIs going into this one with Ruud van Nistelrooy also calling up 15-year-old Jeremy Monga to the bench – a player so young he couldn't have the Foxes' sponsor on his shirt.

The visitors took the lead within the first three minutes when Tino Livramento received the ball on the overlap from Harvey Barnes and sent in a low ball to the far post that Murphy finished.

The forward got his second of the game in unusual circumstances which almost resulted in the goal of the season. Fabian Schär had the ball just inside his own half and noticed Mads Hermansen off his line. It looked like the Newcastle man's effort was going to go in but instead it bounced off the bar where Murphy was on hand to finish on the rebound.

The game was over as a contest in the 34th minute after some poor defending from Leicester that resulted in Joelinton having an effort. Hermansen managed to keep the Brazilian's shot out but Barnes  was the quickest to react and made it 3-0.

From that point on, Eddie Howe could start thinking about seeing this tie out and later resting his stars ahead of their game against Manchester United next weekend.

For Van Nistelrooy there was not much else he could do with a team that had now gone 12 hours without scoring a goal. The Dutch manager did bring on the youngster Jeremy Monga in the 74th minute with the academy product becoming the second youngest ever Premier League player after Ethan Nwaneri.

That result sees Newcastle United move up to fifth in the table ahead of Manchester City while Leicester stay 19th.
