Ajax’s old boss Francesco Farioli is unlikely to feature in Serie A. Following a real transfer merry-go-round, it seems that the former Amsterdammer will seek a new role outside of his home country.
With quite a few changes in the Italian top flight that saw Atalanta, Inter, Lazio, AC Milan and AS Roma eventually all change coaches this summer, there were a number of vacancies. At Fiorentina, Farioli was briefly mentioned after the departure of Raffaele Palladino, but former Milan trainer Stefano Pioli is expected to be appointed there soon.
Parma also has a spot available, because Cristian Chivu went to Inter as the successor to Simone Inzaghi. Farioli’s name was also floating around at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, but Roma legend Daniele De Rossi is preferred, according to Italian sources.
At Lecce, another former Roma player seems to be appointed with Eusebio Di Francesco, while Alberto Gilardino is to become the successor to Filippo Inzaghi at Pisa.
While it is still unclear who will be the new coach of the newly promoted Cremonese after the departure of Giovanni Stroppa, Davide Nicola, coach of Cagliari last season, is currently the favourite. With that, the musical chairs in Serie A seem to be almost over. According to his management, Farioli did not even consider the options from Serie A, because he prefers to work abroad.
After his much-discussed departure from Ajax, the 36-year-old Italian was also mentioned at Rangers, but a Scottish adventure never really seemed on the cards for Farioli. Possibly, a continuation of his coaching career awaits him abroad, which previously took him to Turkey (Karagümruk and Alanyaspor) and France (OGC Nice) before his period in Amsterdam. In his own country, he worked as a goalkeeping coach at Sassuolo and Benevento.
