NAC Breda have confirmed that captain Jan van den Bergh has left the club. The former Beerschot defender, who we deemed to be the clubs player of the season, has joined Jubilo Iwata in the Japanese second tier. The Eredivisie side have described the contract the 30-year-old is set to sign in Japan as lucrative, while also pointing out that the defender paid some of the compensation to the club to make the deal happen.

The Belgian defender left Beerschot to join NAC Breda at the start of the 2023/2024 season. He scored six goals and grabbed three assists in 42 games as the side won promotion to the Eredivisie. This past season he may have been booked 11 times, but he also grabbed two goals and four assists in 31 games. Remarkably, despite racking up the yellows, van den Bergh was never sent off.

Van den Bergh will certainly be missed, as he is an entertaining player to watch and endears himself to his sides fans with his style of play. NAC will need to find a new captain and a sign a replacement during the upcoming transfer window.
