Julian Nagelsmann has reiterated that Manuel Neuer will start Germany’s World Cup opener against Curaçao next Sunday.
“Manu will start training next week and will play against Curaçao,” Nagelsmann said, speaking to RTL.
Germany were without Neuer in the 4-0 win over Finland last week and the 2-1 victory over the United States on Saturday.
The 40-year-old has been sidelined since a calf injury sustained in Bayern’s 5-1 win over 1. FC Köln on May 16.
Oliver Baumann impressed in Neuer’s absence and was Germany’s No. 1 through World Cup qualifying before Neuer returned from international retirement for the tournament.
“I want to give Oliver Baumann a huge compliment,” Nagelsmann said. “He is a super, super guy. Over the past days and weeks, he has fully put himself at the service of the team.”
