Former Hearts manager Steven Naismith has encouraged Lennon Miller to ignore interest from Celtic and move to Europe. The 18-year-old impressed as he assisted once on his first start for Scotland, a 4-0 away win against Liechtenstein.
Speaking to BBC Scotland, Naismith said that Miller should consider making a move to Europe, citing Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson as an example of moving from Scotland to improve.
“My generation, players going abroad was something that rarely happened.
“European football would suit Miller better, because his big attributes are he’s good technically and his awareness is very good.
“Other parts he can learn, Ferguson is the prime example of that. Ferguson’s turned into a brilliant all-round midfielder.
“Motherwell will get rewarded for their hard work [with a good fee].”
Brendan is said to be a big fan of the player and there had been a rumoured move in January. Although, with a year to go on his deal, Motherwell will be hard pressed to reject any bids. Celtic should prioritise a move for the player and make his signing a priority.
Miller is a huge talent and could have an exceptional career. Many have credited him as being a midfield successor to Callum McGregor, the Celtic captain. At just 18, Miller has made 76 appearances, scoring 5 goals and assisting 11 times for Motherwell.
Celtic’s credited interest will likely be resumed in the summer with the midfield’s impressive ascendency difficult to ignore. Players like Stuart Armstrong, Greg Taylor and Ryan Christie (amongst others) have moved to Celtic before progressing into integral first team figures. There are also players like Jeremie Frimpong, Kieran Tierney and Matt O’Riley (amongst others) showcase that players can progress significantly before being sold on to the Premier League.
