Enzo Maresca feels Chelsea deserved much more from their draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday night and highlighted where his team must improve.

The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge meaning it’s now five Premier League game without a win and just three points from the last 15 on offer.

Chelsea still sit fourth thanks to Manchester City’s draw against Brentford, but if Newcastle beat Wolves on Wednesday night they will drop down to fifth.

Maresca on what Chelsea must improve

Chelsea started the game well and took the lead through Cole Palmer thanks to brilliant work from Nicolas Jackson in the build-up.

It was Palmer’s 14th league goal of the season and he showed great skill to sit Mark Travers down in the Bournemouth goal before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.

What happened next was a familiar story for Chelsea as they created multiple chances and failed to extend their lead.

The second half wasn’t good and it appeared the Blues were heading for a 2-1 defeat thanks to a Justin Kluivert penalty and an Antoine Semenyo strike, but captain Reece James stepped up and equalised in the 95th minute with a free kick.

Speaking after the game Maresca felt Chelsea deserved much more, but highlighted where they have to improve.

“I think we deserved much more, especially in the first half, that’s football,” he said as cited on X.com.

“The negative thing is that we changed how we played after conceding. We dropped back.

“For sure, the most important thing is to create chances. It happened many times in the last four or five games, we don’t score and then we concede.

“Tonight after we concede the penalty, we drop a bit and we need to improve on that.”

Chelsea have plenty of time to prepare for their next game on Monday night with Wolves the visitors to Stamford Bridge and they really need three points to get their Champions League hopes back on track.
