Turkish giants Fenerbahce have reached an agreement to sign Nelson Semedo on a free transfer (h/t journalist Fabrizio Romano).
Semedo announced his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday after his contract expired at the end of June.
Wolves had offered a four-year extension for the Portuguese defender, but he opted against it for a new chapter in his career.
The 31-year-old leaves the club after five years. He has made 182 appearances for Wolves, bagging three goals and 12 assists.
Wolves will speed up their search for a new right-back following the former Barcelona star’s exit.
They were in pole position to sign Marc Pubill, but Atletico Madrid hijacked the deal.
Fenerbahce have beaten fellow Super Lig rivals Besiktas for Semedo. Manager Jose Mourinho has played a key role in persuading his compatriot.
They have been searching for a right-back after Bright Osayi-Samuel joined Birmingham City on loan.
Semedo’s experience and defensive solidity will be a welcome addition for Fenerbahce, who will face Feyenoord in the Champions League’s third qualifying round next week.
Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Milan Skriniar will complete his permanent move to Fenerbahce for a fee worth around €10 million.
The Slovakian spent the second half of the last season on loan with the Yellow Canaries. He will sign a new four-year contract until 2029, earning up to €7.5m per season.
Fenerbahce continue to target more high-profile signings as they look to secure a place in the Champions League and knock Galatasaray off their perch in the Super Lig.
