Scottish giants Celtic have largely enjoyed themselves in pre-season ahead of the 2025/26 season, with Brendan Rodgers still at the helm and with expectations of another dominant domestic campaign.

Wins over Sporting and Newcastle got the Bhoys off on the right foot before they were brought back down to earth during a 5-1 humbling at the hands of Ajax.

But they bounced back last night against Saudi outfit Al-Ahli in a shootout win in the wake of a 1-1 draw, with summer signing Shin Yamada bagging the winning effort from 12 yards out.

After arriving from Japanese domestic giants Kawasaki Frontale earlier this month in a deal that saw Celtic splash £1.5million on the Japanese international, Yamada is already taking to life at the club, which he revealed in the wake of their last night.

“I’m glad to be a part of this Celtic team,” Shin said. “And I’m happy to score the last goal to win the game.

“The first league game is coming soon, and we’ll play in different competitions, so I would like to score a lot of goals and share good moments with the fans.”

Yamada hit 32 goals in 119 appearances for Azzurro Nero across three seasons while helping them to Japanese Super Cup honours in 2024, and looks set to add his name to the long line of Japanese stars who enjoyed their time at Celtic Park.
