Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has confirmed that Patrick Bamford has suffered a hamstring injury.
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has revealed that he will be without Patrick Bamford for the next few weeks after the striker suffered a hamstring injury.
The 31-year-old has endured a difficult few years, having previously been key for the Whites under Marcelo Bielsa, and he is yet to find the net in ten Championship games this season.
Many of those outings have come from the bench, with Bamford having fallen behind the likes of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph in the pecking order at Elland Road.
Most recently, the former Middlesbrough man was not involved in the squad as Leeds threw away a two-goal lead to draw at Hull City, with the club waiting to discover the extent of his latest setback.
And, in a fresh development, boss Farke told reporter Beren Cross that Bamford is now set for a spell on the sidelines.
“He has suffered a hamstring injury in the Blackburn game. He will be out for four weeks. It could be quicker or longer. Already eight days ago. It means there is a small chance he is back in training by the end of January. Overall assessment: four weeks.”
Firstly, you have sympathy for Bamford because he has had terrible luck with injuries over the years, and this is another setback for the player.
From Leeds’ perspective, it’s also not ideal timing with the January window open, as it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were open to selling the striker this month.
It has been claimed that Wrexham were monitoring Bamford as they look for a big-name addition to help their forward line as they seek promotion to the Championship.
But, with Bamford likely to miss all of January, and his fitness record over the years, this may put the Red Dragons off a move - or any other club who were weighing up a switch for the attacker.
As it stands, Bamford is under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2026, and it seems highly unlikely that fresh terms will be offered.
For Bamford, this campaign will no doubt have been frustrating, as he would feel he still has a lot to offer if he is given the opportunity, but, as outlined above, Farke doesn’t see him as a solution right now, and with Leeds sitting top of the Championship, it’s fair to say that his decisions have been justified.
