‘Newcastle United were excellent the first half and totally dominated.

We could and should have had the game won.

Brighton couldn’t get out of their half and when United produced the best move of the match and Bruno put Isak in, that was the moment.

That 33rd minute chance goes in and we would have won by at least three.

Instead two minutes later Brighton do a smash and grab the first time they get near our box and score a perfect away goal.

Anthony Gordon could have had a hat-trick, somehow putting a header over the bar from six yards out from a wonder Isak cross, plus his next best chance he was through with just the keeper to beat but shot straight at him.

The second half slipped away from United and left ruing the missed chances.

Just look at the stats, NUFC with 45 touches of the ball in their box, Brighton with only 12 in ours. I think the only one of the 12 for them in the first half was the goal!’

Nat Seaton:

‘A disappointing result where we just didn’t perform anything like we know that we can (seem to be saying this a few times already this season!).

At half time I thought they were very fortunate to be leading but I have to be honest and say that by full time we hadn’t done enough to say that it was a lucky win for them.

We’re not used to losing at home, it has been a while, so always hard to take.

With that starting 11 I was hoping for better things, I’ll just have to take that hope into next weekend’

Mark Jankowski:

‘An utterly frustrating afternoon.

Despite a very poor referee and one of the most negative away set ups I’ve seen in a long time, Newcastle have conspired to throw away the game.

Absolute sitters missed on 3 occasions means that despite our dominance we only have ourselves to blame for letting the seagulls leave with the points.

With tough games on the horizon we need to fix our shyness in front of goal… fast.’

GToon:

‘Totally predictable and totally unacceptable.

This is proving to be the season that catches Eddie out imo.

The relegation escape was brilliant and we rode on the crest of a wave the next season.

The following season was awful, blighted by injuries as a very naive approach to managing training and workload had the squad on its knees.

This season has been poor with inconsistent performances and a few lucky wins.

Ashley presided over seasons like this. Bruce had his players “just running around” so where are we now?

Bring back Rafa.

Eddie is a really nice bloke but he isn’t the man to take us to the next level, anymore than adding a few extra deckchairs at SJP will allow us to compete with the top teams.’

David Punton:

‘There we have the first home defeat of the season.

Disappointing, albeit only the eighth time we’ve lost a SJP under Eddie Howe.

We’ve been wasteful in front of goal. It’s alarming. Poor decision making and when Brighton held the slenderest of advantages.

We had 20 attempts at goal but only six which were on target.

The doom mongers will be having a fine evening on social media no doubt.

However, maybe high time to reset expectations a tad. Are we really as good as we all think?

The road has just got bumpy. The international break is something of an excuse but all clubs have had that to contend with.

That was us starting with our first choice midfield three too.

Albion with only 12 touches in our box are off back down the south coast with all three points. They are some project, they regenerate under new managers like Dr Who.’

Billy Miller:

‘What a disappointment.

Last season we had a quirk in that we only lost at home, in all competitions, to previous Champions League winners.

To have our first home defeat this season so early and not to an elite team is frustrating.

We should have got something out of it but we didn’t take our chances.

A lot of reflection to do before we face three massive challenges in six days next week.’

Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey:

‘That half time pick me up in the form of chips and curry save nearly did for me but not as much as that performance.

I can’t believe with that much possession against such poor opposition and with so many one on ones we couldn’t at least earn a point.

Disappointed is an understatement.’

Tony Mallabar:

‘Well it is all starting to unravel under nice guy Eddie, we had chances but couldn’t take them.

Absolutely no progress so far this season.

My prediction that Eddie to be gone by Christmas looking more and more likely.’

The Armchair Fan:

‘An unbelievable defeat. Hammered them all match! Gutted with that.

One saving grace is that the performances are steadily getting better but this was a tough one to take.’

Jamie Smith:

‘So, four games without a goal from open play because we appear utterly clueless as to how to create an attacking opportunity from excessive possession.

Give Brighton their due, it was a classic away smash and grab and if we frustrate Chelsea next week with a similar display of dark arts, no one will be complaining.

It feels like mid table beckons with this level of performance, although 2 points from 12 is more like relegation form. Focus on the cups.’

Bazoox:

‘You wont find me accepting a result like this.

It’s a disgrace and everything has stalled.

Top 4 or Top 6…ya now havin a laugh.

The owners won’t be happy and Eddies job is now on the line. Don’t expect any photos soon.’
