It ended Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 4.
A game where Bournemouth were impressive and brave from the very first whistle.
The visitors could have already been in the lead before they did indeed do so, in the sixth minute
United equalised with a Bruno header from a corner on 25 minutes but just could never really get a head of steam up, unable to serve up any spells of persistent pressure.
Which is exactly what Bournemouth did do on a day when they deserved to win for sure.
Looking at the individuals in black and white, interesting to get an independent perspective on how this played out.
‘Whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.
Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.’
Now whoscored have published their independent player ratings for this Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 4 match:
As you can see, eleven players received a rating of 7.0 or more.
All eleven for the visitors.
I don’t think much more needs to be said really.
In my opinion, Sandro Tonali (6.3) was easily United’s best player, yet these automated ratings somehow made him not even in the top four for Newcastle.
Bruno (6.8) top rated for NUFC, he got the goal and tried to drive the team forward, but just like the rest of the team, not at his best. He was also mainly to blame for the second Bournemouth goal.
Somehow Lewis Hall (6.7) and Martin Dubravka (6.7) were rated joint second-best for United but for me, both had really poor games. Whilst Isak (6.5) just couldn’t get into the game, not helped by such poor service from those around him.
