Newcastle United are monitoring West Ham United playmaker Lucas Paqueta. The Brazilian “is well-liked by some at Newcastle” (The I Paper).
The Magpies are scouring the market for additions as they look to bolster their squad for the coming season, and Paqueta is on their radar.
West Ham might be open to cashing in on the former AC Milan star. Enter Newcastle.
Paqueta fits the mould of the players who thrive under Newcastle boss Eddie Howe. He is a tenacious, versatile star blessed with creativity and an eye for a goal.
The Brazilian international star suffered a dip in form when the allegations hung over his head, but he is back to his mesmerising best in pre-season.
Teams like Newcastle are looking his way and pondering a move.
With none of the top six Premier League sides currently chasing him, this is the chance for Newcastle to pounce and add some quality to their ranks.
The Magpies have lacked a spark in their pre-season games ahead of the new season, but Paqueta can sprinkle his magic if he joins.
Hailed as a ‘maverick’ by former boss David Moyes, Paqueta will add creativity and graft in the engine room, working with international teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
He’d be a worthwhile coup for the Toons.
Newcastle will need to move quickly after missing out on several targets this summer.
They have struggled to land reinforcements with deals dragging on before other suitors swoop.
Thankfully, the Newcastle striker saga is close to an end, with the club edging closer to acquiring Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Meanwhile, the Toons are also interested in Samu Aghehowa (FC Porto), Randal Kolo Muani (Paris Saint-Germain), and Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea).
Newcastle will try to bring one of them to St. James’ Park.
